Built in the 1500s with parts dating back to the 14th century, Borwick Hall was first recorded in the Domesday Book as part of Roger of Poitou’s estate. Over the centuries it has been home to the wealthy Bindlosse family, leased to the composer John Alexander Fuller Maitland, and later used as a WWII military base.

But behind its historic charm lies something far darker…

The Starved Girl – Borwick Hall’s Most Famous Spirit

The most chilling tale is that of the ‘Starved Girl’ — a young woman locked away in the Pele Tower for defying her parents’ marriage plans. She was left to starve to death… but her spirit never left.

Witnesses report a cold, dark shadow that brushes against their backs before vanishing into thin air. Multiple sightings of this figure have been recorded throughout the 2000s, making her one of Lancashire’s most terrifying and persistent hauntings.
